The Department of History at Central European University
is pleased to announce its call for applications
for academic year 2013/2014
Central European University in Budapest, Hungary is the only international English-language graduate school in Europe that is accredited in both Europe (Hungary) and in the United States. The History Department focuses on early modern and modern history, with a number of regional concentrations, including Central and Eastern Europe and the Eastern Mediterranean, as well the former territories of the Ottoman and Russian Empires. Specializations are available in Jewish Studies and Religious Studies.

  • Master of Arts in Central European History (one year)
  • Master of Arts in Comparative History: Central, Eastern and Southeastern Europe 1500-2000 (two years)
  • MA in Women’s and Gender History (two years, MATILDA Program)
  • Doctor of Philosophy in Comparative History of Central, Southeastern and Eastern Europe

Financial Aid and Tuition
The majority of CEU students receive internal or external financial aid. Various types of funding packages are available for Master’s degree students: CEU fellowships, tuition waivers, external scholarships, financial aid.
Nearly 90% of the doctoral students receive a full CEU fellowship that covers all tuition fees and a generous living allowance for up to three years. More information:
